Clearance in First Order and Zero Order Elimination Kinetic
Clearance is an imaginary volume of plasma from which a drug is completely removed in unit time.
In First-Order Elimination Kinetic
โ
elimination process is not saturated
โ
at higher concentrations of drug โ more drug molecules are eliminated &
at lower concentrations of drug โ less drug molecules are eliminated
โ
the volume of plasma from which drug is completely removed remains constant
โ i.e. clearance remains constant.
In Zero-Order Elimination Kinetic
โ
elimination process is saturated
โ
fixed number of drug molecules are eliminated irrespective of plasma concentration of drug
โ at higher concentrations โ less plasma is cleared &
at lower concentrations โ more plasma is cleared
โ
i.e. clearance is not constant.
